In today's blog I'm going over everything that I pack in my diaper bag for a day out with my son. Surprisingly I carry way more than I thought I did, but every item I bring along with me serves a purpose. Keep reading to learn more about some of my favorite items! I'm hoping this may give you some inspiration on what to pack on your next trip out with your little one. While planning this blog, it took me on a trip down memory lane. Looking back to when I was pregnant, I have to laugh at myself for thinking how easy it would be taking my baby out for strolls throughout the city. Not even! If you're a mama I know you can totally relate. When it comes to a baby you have to stay prepared for any and every situation that could happen, and to do that it all starts with a really good diaper bag...
My Diaper Bag And Why I Love It: The JJ Cole Knapsack
I have the JJ Cole Knapsack Diaper Bag in the color Heather Grey. I've looked at tons of diaper bags during my months of pregnancy to find the perfect one for our family and since my son has been born I can say with honesty that this bag is the coolest! First off I love the color, we all know neutral toned colors are the way to my heart, and this bag fits right in with my wardrobe. I love how it's not covered in a cheesy baby print but looks very sophisticated to say the least. I've gotten so many complements on it! Second, this bag has two different carrying options. You can throw it over your shoulder messenger style or you can wear it as a backpack with a second pair of straps in the back. I tend to wear it as a backpack so both of my hands are free, and my husband likes to carry it over his shoulder. Speaking of my husband, he LOVES this bag. In his own words this is what he told me when I asked him what his thought were:
"I don't like carrying bags with two straps that can't be thrown over your shoulder. Being able to do that with this bag is helpful. I like the color, and it dosen't look like a girly bag so I don't mind holding it." - Shawn
Well there you have it ladies! It's hashtag dad approved, haha! I have so many great things to say about this bag, it could honestly be it's own post. Let me know in the comments below if you would like me to write a detailed review on this bag and I would be happy to do so!
What's In My Diaper Bag?
Moving on to what I actually have in my bag, here is a list of everything I pulled out (I linked as many of the exact items we have if you would like to purchase them as well!) The first thing plopped right at the top was my son's Wubbanub. He loves his pacifier, and if I was to ever forget this I would turn right back around towards home and grab it- no joke! I've been in situations where nothing else would soothe him except for his passi, so we make sure to take it with us as our secret weapon. How cute is the little moose toy attached? We're real Texans and we love anything that has to do with nature, so when I saw there was the option to get a moose for him, I didn't hesitate! Next inside my diaper bag is actually a huge plastic bag with a sample sized can of formula, a mini container of formula and a scoop. So yes, I carry two different containers of formula with me! The smaller one is basic and has about three four ounce bottles worth of powder in it. This one is for any usual outing that we do. I carry the sample size can of formula which is way bigger compared to the other one for an emergency. God forbid we have a tire blow out and we're stranded on the side of the road with no way to get our son food. I know, a little dramatic but I just can't bear the thought of not keeping it with us. I also keep an empty bottle on the side of the diaper bag along with some water. Underneath his formula, I found a burp cloth and a bib. My son tends to spit up so the bib is for keeping it off of his clothes and the burp cloth for wiping it off of me! I have a swaddle blanket rolled up at the bottom as well just in case it gets chilly and he needs something to warm him up. Y'all know I also have my Kute n' Koo diaper clutch with me at all times in my bag as well! I did an entire post about this product during Blogmas last year- click here to read and learn more about it! I adore this diaper wallet because it carries all of my diapering essentials in one place. Inside I have: My changing pad from Ikea, My huggies wipes holder along with 3-6 huggies diapers. I also have some babyganics protective ointment just in case there is a hint of a diaper rash forming.
I have an extra pair of clothes for him to wear just in case he destroys his first pair. Inside one of the pockets in my diaper bag I have some disposable diaper sacks - perfect if you are over a friend or family members house and your kid has a poppy diaper. I remember taking Isaiah to visit my older brother and sister in law at their house around Thanksgiving last year and he pooped his entire diaper out. I was able to put the messy contents inside of these powdered scented bags and throw it away without anyone getting grossed out from the smell. And speaking of gross, I have hand sanitizer in the front pouch of my bag along with a pair of head phones, chapstick and sunglasses. Some recent things I have been including now that little man is a little bit older is a book or toy to keep him entertained and his tablet that he got as a Christmas gift from his grandmom so he can watch all of the Daniel Tiger episodes his little heart desires. Last but not least, I just got the munchkin portable bottle warmer for the car and I love it! We bring this along to heat up any of Isaiah's bottles on the go and it stays in my diaper bag as well.
My Essentials: What I Absolutely Can't Leave The House Without
From everything I listed above there are a few things I just couldn't forget behind.
Here are my real MVP's when it comes to my diaper bag essentials besides the obvious stuff like food. Be sure to check them out!
- Wubbanub- We all know why.
- Ikea Change Pad- Because germs are ew.
- Bib- AKA the spit up catcher.
- Sunglasses- To hide the bags under my eyes.
- Extra Clothes- Just in case the spit up catcher didn't work.
- Car Seat Cover- Keeps sun, wind, and gross hands away from my baby.
- Fleece Blanket- It's been really cold here lately, I love bringing a fluffy blanket for Isaiah to have over him in the car
- Baby Carrier- Sometimes this kid is absolutely over sitting in his car seat. I have my baby carrier on standby so we can still make errands quick.
