The last time I did a night routine Isaiah was a little tiny newborn. It was during my "Blogmas Series" and if you scroll back far enough in the archives you can still read it! Not going to lie, I'm completely embarrassed by it but we all start somewhere right? So much has changed now that my son is almost five months old, we do things A LOT differently in how we get him to sleep at night and I'm happy to share what new methods, products and fun stuff we do in the evenings on a typical night at home.
Isaiah Wakes Up From His Last Nap Of The Day At Around 3:00- 3:30PM
After I feed him, I make sure we do some fun, high energy activities to wear out the energy he accumulated during his rest. A key part in my son sleeping at night is making sure he had enough to do during the day so he's tired. This can include anything from tummy time to playing in his jumparoo. Anything that gets him moving and interacting with toys or music is a win for me! I have a list of activities written down so if I see him starting to get bored, we just switch gears to something else to keep him in a happy mood and wanting to play more. He starts getting fussy towards 5pm and I know then that it's time to get ready for bath time!
Bath Time Starts At 5:00PM
When Isaiah was tiny we didn't give him a bath every day. He's a bit older now and we recently made the decision to have him take a bath every night to get him in more of a bedtime routine- besides, the boy is going to need it when he's older! He does have his days where he may have spit up more than once making him really stinky, but for the most part he stays pretty clean. We originally used the baby dove tip to toe wash and it worked fine with our original every other day baths but once we switched to a more frequent bath schedule I noticed the soap dried him out a bit too much for my liking. We recently switched to the brand "Tubby Todd" and can see a huge difference in his skin already. No more flaky, dry skin- this baby wash has only the good stuff in it and smells oh so yummy! We're using the "Tubby Sweets Natural Hair And Body Wash" in the jelly bean scent and following it up with "Tubby Sweets Natural Everyday Lotion" in the raspberry macaroon scent. He's gotten so many complements on how good he smells long after his bath during the next day out. With these products Isaiah can have the sweetest of dreams without compromising honest ingredients. This is a limited edition scent that was done in collaboration with mom blogger: Baby Boy Bakery, so it won't last forever! Pick up the "Tubby Sweets Bundle" for $45 over on their website and enjoy the body wash, lotion and bubble bath all together. Isaiah enjoys playing with his bath letters and we have fun listening to music or one of my go to podcasts while we're getting clean. Thank you again to Tubby Todd for sending two complementary Tubby Sweets line products for us to try out! We love them!
Pj's & Story Time!
We've been reading to Isaiah since he was born and can see how beneficial it is! He is so vocal and very in tune with what we say when we talk to him. Though he himself can't talk yet, reading and exposing him to new words are the building blocks for him to have a good vocabulary. We read one story a night and try to make it as expressive as we can. My husband and I need Oscars for some of the "performances" we've put on during story time- it get's serious!
Last Bottle For The Night & Straight To Bed With Our Ollie Swaddle
Bed time for the little one is anywhere from 6:00pm- 6:30pm. Sometimes it's 7 o'clock depending on if he wants to cooperate or not. I believe having a set bedtime in place allows my son to feel at ease when it comes to going down for the night. He knows what to expect and usually doesn't put up much of a fight when he's put down. A tip to remember is to be sure you are aware of when your baby goes through a growth spurt. At around three months my son hit a HUGE one and was beginning to wake back up periodically at night. It didn't take long before I realized he was hungry! I've been using the Wonder Weeks app to help me stay on track with his developments and leaps. When I see he is going through a new one, I make sure to increase how many ounces he drinks at night so he can stay at bay all night long. Another big help has been switching over to the Ollie Swaddle that keeps him snug tight. We were using regular swaddle blankets before that worked in the beginning, but recently found a way to break out of them. No matter how tight I (or my husband) would wrap him he would always find a way to wiggle himself out of it. I was also afraid that now that he's able to grab things he would pull the blanket over his face in the middle of the night. We received the Ollie complementary from the company and was such a game changer for us. It worked really well for my son because it's fastened with velcro- much stronger than the traditional way of wrapping especially for my mighty might of a baby. He wiggles but never squirms out of the Ollie swaddle and it has allowed me to sleep so much better knowing my son is safe. There is no greater gift than peace of mind when it comes to your baby! Be sure to give the Ollie Swaddle website a look through, they have so many adorable colors for both boys and girls! Here is a link to the one we have. The packaging is absolutely beautiful and washing our swaddle has been a breeze. Thank you Ollie for allowing us to try your amazing swaddle out!
