I asked over on Instagram what topic y'all wanted to read about for today's weekend blog and so many of you responded to learning how to step up your creative content game. I know many of you are bloggers and #instamoms like myself and I'm happy to share the tips and tricks I've learned along the way that really helped in growing my blog and brand. When I first started on Instagram I had no clue what I was doing and most of my images and blog topics lacked focus and quality. I just wanted to start putting out content, but do you know what's worse than no content? BAD CONTENT. I took a step back and really thought about what I really wanted and needed for my content to do for me, once I figured it out my page views, likes and overall engagement grew dramatically. This blog is essentially for the mama who is serious about making her blog and instagram a business but needs information on how to start. This is going to take a lot of hard work to get your brand moving in the direction you want it to go. If you're dedicated and stay consistent you'll begin to see growth within your platforms!
The Two Questions To Ask Yourself:
What Is My Message? What Is My Intention?
When moving into getting more serious about turning yourself or business into a brand it needs to be established as soon as possible what your message is and making statement very clear. Why? Because viewers need to know who you are and what your about in order to feel connected with you. It's already hard enough to get to know people online. Throw in a random photo of your dog, some coffee and your favorite destination and they won't stick around long enough to know what you're really trying to say. Knowing your message means you'll begin to take photos that actually make sense for your feed, in turn boosting the quality of your feed overall. The same thing goes with your blog, Your topics always need to reflect back to your message. You don't know how many times I've visited "fashion blogs" that had travel pictures and recipes thrown into it. In the marketing world this term is called "finding you niche".
Let's take me for example: I post motherhood and baby related content but specifically I like to blog with keywords like "easy" "affordable" "fast" and "inspiration" marketing myself to a specific type of person who likes fun, efficient, feel good blogs. I know who my ideal reader and viewer is, therefore I make content centered around this concept. My instagram feed also reflects this with using fun bright colors with a white balance behind them including pictures with lots of smiles or objects that evoke positive feelings. Both my blog and feed match and have the same message attracting my ideal readers and viewers to stick around.
Making creative content goes so much deeper than having the same filter on all your photos- that's why celebrities who have massive followings can have a really jacked up feed and still have people like thier photos... it's because there is a message that that person is giving out that their viewers want to see. Making a feed theme just makes it easier for people to realize what message you're portraying. We are in a day in age where everyone loves a good story. They want to know people who are just like them and that add VALUE to their life in some kind of way. The most successful blogs are the ones who are geared towards helping others in providing quality content. So how do you find your own personal message? Only you can really answer what you are looking for and what kind of content you want to create. I encourage you to make a pinterest mood board and play around with what type of content you want to start making. Whenever I'm considering a photo to be on my feed I often refer back to my mood board and see if it fits. Having your own personal message be the highlight puts your own creative spin on your content setting it apart from the rest.
Let's talk about intention: if you're looking to step up your feed and blog you already have a higher purpose in mind. Knowing the intention of your feed will in turn have you create specific content geared towards what you are looking for your audience to do. My intention is to get more subscribers and readers to my blog. So I'm going to market my blog through my social posts, in my instagram stories and find fun ways to get my audience over to read my latest blog.
