Imagination is one of the best parts of childhood. As a mom, I'm always looking for creative ways to build my son's natural giftings, talents and abilities; and what better way to do that then by giving him specific tools to allow him to express himself through imaginative play. Isaiah is only five months old, but I am currently looking for things he can start playing with now that he can also grow up with. I compiled a list of a few of the best toys to help spark that imagination within your little ones.
Why Is Imaginative Play Important?
The ability to create, think and invent are skill sets every child has the ability to harness. As adults we tend to loose that spark that once was so effortless to us when we were children. It's important to me to show my son that he can be what he sets his mind on and with a great work ethic he can make his dreams come true. Nurturing that gift from an early age can set him on that path to know no limits. Here are some toys I'm loving for open ended play learning!
Play Kitchen- I love the idea of a play kitchen because I feel like there are so many practical lessons kids can learn through role play. There are various types of play kitchens and they come in all kinds of colors, shapes and sizes! A blogging friend of mine suggested finding little pots and dishes from the thrift store (metal or plastic of course!) to save a bit of money. I love this idea! Play kitchens can help instill values such as: responsibility, serving and sharing. I love this one for a steal of a price at Target! (Plus it's vintage!)
Dress Up Clothes- I plan on getting a few dress up outfits for my son to play in when he's older. I wanted to get a variety of profession themed play clothes such as: a doctor, fireman or police officer for him. I was recently at Barnes and Noble and they had an excellent selection with accessories to match. If you don't have one in your area, Melissa and Doug has outfits listed on Amazon- $25 a piece! Our Personal Favorite: Camp Castle Playmats
Ok, so I'm a little more than obsessed with this company Camp Castle Playmats. This brand makes some of the CUTEST playmats for kids of all ages, they are multi(fun)ctional; allowing them to have the perfect scene for them to play in every time! We have received two complementary mini mats from the company to do this review for you and I must say I am LOVING THEM. First off, this company is based in our city (Austin) and I love supporting local small businesses in our area. So far we've taken our playmats out with us, used it as a placemat for eating as well as playing! Clean up is easy and I love how simple it is to pick up to take along with us when we are heading out the door. The mini size is perfect for travel!
This brand allows a child's imagination become a reality with providing a setting they can interact with. My son will have fun growing up with this and making his own imaginations come to life! We have the farm and the mini city playmat both are only $24 each and are handmade and designed by Haley, the owner of Camp Castle! As a mom of two boys she created something so beautiful to share and I am honored to be able to pay it forward with sharing this company with you! These mats come in various styles and colors and range in three sizes: mini "12X16" medium "43X58" and biggie "56X78". You definitely wont be disappointed in grabbing a playmat for your babe- we love ours and can't wait to create more memories with them.
P.S: For all of my girl mamas out there check out the Rainbow Land Playmat- Seriously, it's too cute for words!
