Though I am a stay at home mom, I also spend time working as a full time blogger. It's a hard day of work most of the time but honestly nothing brings me more joy than to see my little boy every day! It was quite an adjustment to balance work and home life as well and it's not always easy. Literally, I'm still looking at a pile of laundry that I have yet to fold! I manage pretty well despite it all, and I thought I would share a few of my tips on how to better your work at home expirence with a little one in the house as well.
Start each day with an action plan. Don't think your day will just come together on its own, because it won't. Mistake number one was thinking I could wake up whenever, mange getting by during the day with little to no prep work involved. It put so much unnecessary stress on not only me, but my baby as well! I like to make an action plan the night before and really get intentional about the tasks I'm doing with times. With being a full time blogger, majority of my day consists of creating content for my social channels as well as topics to write about. Add a baby to the mix and you can see how things can get really crazy, really fast! I don't know where I would be without my planner. If you haven't invested in one as a business lady I highly suggest it. Get used to checking it often and referencing it when new opportunities arise.
Be willing to compromise! Even though you can plan your day, be prepared for things to change- because they will. I talk a bit about this in my book: "The Mom Boss Organization Guide" where I explain the importance of a schedule. However no matter how much of your day you put on paper, life is bound to happen! Your schedule is your blueprint- try to stick to it as much as you can. If something happens and you get off course, you can always refer back to your blueprint to get you back on track. I'm sure us mamas can understand how unpredictable life can be with a baby! Give yourself grace and if you don't complete something you wanted to do. Move it to the next day and try again!
Balance is not easy, grind to get your work done- but also take moments out of your day to spend time with your child. I wish my son and I could play all day. But the reality of it is I have to work to continue to provide for him. I felt so guilty when all I was doing was working and not enjoying time with him. I decided since then that I would take every other post nap time to step away and to interact with him beyond just feeding and changing him. It's been working really well doing things this way when he's awake. When he goes down for his naps I push, push, push to speed through tasks while I still have the time. With working and staying at home, life is lived in the fast lane. It's always a treat to take a moment away from the screen and be present with my little guy.
