So maybe you're like me and want to do something fun with your family for the summer but don't really have the funds to take a lavish trip. Though it is nice to travel, you can still have a vacay worthy trip in your own city and make it just as memorable. Keep on reading to get some tips on how to start planning your own "staycation" this year!
Remember, this is a trip- so plan early!
Just because you're not traveling out of town doesn't mean you're exempt from planning! Pick a hotel or AirBnB in the city and book in advance- I know some places actually give discounts to locals who stay with them so there is a chance you don't have to pay a bunch for a room. It's amazing how we could live somewhere and still have no idea all of the things our home towns have to offer. Explore all your city has to offer so select a place near some of the best attractions, land marks and must eat restaurants on any tourist list.
Pick a time during the week- weekends could be pricey
During the summer the prices can be pretty crazy for family favorites like aquariums, zoos and places where you'll see a larger crowd come through. Try to make your staycation during the week to have a more laid back experience with your visits.
Splurge on something one of a kind
To make up for the lack of traveling, find something one of a kind your city offers that you can splurge and have some fun with! For us, Austin has a ton of things that are available and one of those is canoe and boat rides! Now they aren't THAT expensive but it is more than what my husband and I would usually pay for, lol! It's something unique and different that can make our "staycation" that more special for us.
Encourage Your Kids To Join In!
Sometimes kids can be kinda bummed that they aren't going anywhere really cool for the summer but honestly it's all about perception! Get them involved by allowing them to take their own photos on a disposable camera to print and save afterwards or go shopping for some new swimsuits and outfits for the trip. Making this staycation an event like any other vacation will get them excited to be apart of it.
Make a scrapbook/ photobook of all of your snapshots and gather together as a family and share some of the highlights from the trip.
Lots of memories to be had this year, I hope you have the best time making them!
